ADJUSTABLE PIPE CONNECTIONS
Dismantling Joint for Valve and Pipeline Installation
LEEVOA PIPE supplies flanged dismantling joints designed to provide axial installation adjustment and simplify the installation, removal and maintenance of valves, pumps and other flanged pipeline equipment. Carbon steel, ductile iron and stainless steel configurations are available for different piping projects.
What Is a Dismantling Joint?
A dismantling joint is an adjustable flanged pipeline fitting used to provide controlled axial adjustment between two flanged connections. It is commonly installed next to valves, pumps and other pipeline equipment so the installation length can be adjusted during assembly and sufficient clearance can be created when the equipment needs to be removed for maintenance.
A typical dismantling joint consists of a body, telescopic section, sealing ring, gland and tie rods or full-length bolts. After the required installation length is set, the sealing system is compressed and the tie rods secure the assembly as an integral connection.
What Does a Dismantling Joint Actually Do?
Installation Length Adjustment
The telescopic section allows the face-to-face length to be adjusted during pipeline installation, helping the connected equipment fit between existing flanges.
Easier Valve and Equipment Removal
Creating controlled axial clearance makes it easier to remove or reinstall valves, pumps and other flanged components during maintenance.
Secure Flanged Connection
Once the required position is set, the gland, seal and tie-rod system create an integrated mechanical connection.
Axial Load Transfer
Tie rods help restrain the assembly and transfer axial forces through the connected pipeline system according to the joint design and operating conditions.
Dismantling Joint vs Rubber Expansion Joint
| Feature | Dismantling Joint | Rubber Expansion Joint |

| Typical Location | Beside valves, pumps, meters and flanged equipment | Pumps, equipment and flexible pipeline sections |
| Vibration Isolation | Not its primary function | Yes |
| Thermal Movement Absorption | Not the primary design purpose | Can be, within rated movement |
| Tie Rods | Integral to many dismantling-joint designs | Optional control units depending on system |
| Adjustable Installation Length | Yes | Not used for the same installation-adjustment purpose |
Dismantling Joint Material Options

Dismantling Joint Construction
The dismantling joint combines a telescopic body with a compression sealing system and longitudinal tie rods. The telescopic section provides the required installation adjustment, while the gland compresses the sealing ring around the sliding section. Once the final installation position is established, the tie rods secure the complete assembly.
- Flanged Body
- Telescopic Spigot / Short Pipe
- Gland
- Sealing Ring
- Tie Rods / Full-Length Bolts
- Nuts & Washers
- Connecting Flanges
How Does a Dismantling Joint Work?
Set the Installation Length
Adjust the telescopic section until the dismantling joint fits the available space between the mating flanges.
Connect the Flanges
Align and connect the joint with the valve, pump or other flanged equipment and the adjoining pipeline.
Compress the Seal
Tighten the gland fasteners evenly so the sealing ring is compressed around the telescopic section.
Secure the Tie Rods
Tighten the longitudinal tie rods according to the approved product drawing and installation procedure to secure the assembly.
Why Use a Dismantling Joint Next to a Valve?
Large flanged valves are installed between fixed pipeline connections and may require axial clearance before they can be removed. A dismantling joint provides adjustable installation length during assembly and can create the clearance needed for later valve removal and maintenance.
This makes dismantling joints particularly useful next to butterfly valves, gate valves, meters, pumps and other flanged pipeline equipment.
Dismantling Joint Applications
Water Supply Systems
Adjustable flanged connections for valves and pipeline equipment in water transmission and distribution systems.
Water & Wastewater Treatment
Installation and maintenance access around valves, pumps and suitable flanged equipment.
Pump Stations
Adjustable connections that simplify pump and valve installation and future maintenance.
Municipal Pipelines
Flanged connections around isolation valves and other equipment in municipal pipeline networks.
Industrial Piping
Installation adjustment and dismantling clearance for compatible industrial pipeline equipment.
Carbon Steel vs Ductile Iron vs Stainless Steel Dismantling Joints
| Material | Typical Selection Consideration |
|---|---|
| Carbon Steel | Fabricated design flexibility, large sizes and project-specific configurations |
| Ductile Iron | Common waterworks and infrastructure piping applications |
| Stainless Steel | Applications requiring stainless construction or increased corrosion resistance |
